Szentek is Unlike Anything Else in St Andrews––Here’s Why You Need to Go.

Szentek. Upon first glance, the name is very unusual. Szen-tek. One word, meaning “Saints” in Hungarian. No “club” or “show” or anything even remotely pretentious added to explain what it is, but that begs the question for a first-time attendee: what exactly is Szentek? 

The answer is hard to pin down, precisely because the event itself is complex and intricate––a vivid world of music, artwork, cinema, dancing, and everything in between, now back for its fourth year running. On Thursday November 21st, the popular venue Kinkell Byre becomes transformed into a psychedelic haven for students who want something different out of the St Andrews nightlife scene. Three (yes, three) different rooms will feature an array of both local and new DJs, and the lineup this year is jam-packed with names big and small. Szentek is ultimately a showcase not only of great electronic music, but features creative talent for young artists in a dynamic and welcoming space. 

Glasgow-based Optimo––the DJ duo that’s renowned for combining wildly different genres into an energetic set––will be backed by Eclair Fifi and Max Dupa B2B Neb and popular St Andrews band Too This For That in Room 1. Room 2 features Peverelist, IDA, and Palidrone, while St Andrews-based powerhouses Wax Collective, Copper Coil, and Szentek residents will spinning tunes all night long in Room 3. The Szentek team realizes that female representation within the creative and music worlds is incredibly important, so expect some great work coming from an even bigger female lineup than ever.
