Make Way for Mt. Doubt

Mt. Doubt are a six-piece project hailing from Edinburgh, with a dark pop sound reminiscent of The Last Shadow Puppets and Rag’n’Bone Man. This is complimented by great lyrics from songwriter Leo Bargery, who began the project back in 2015. Since then, they have released multiple EPs, playing venues across Scotland that include T in the Park 2016.

Saturday 13th October is a busy day for these six members. Not only are they releasing their brand new EP, This Must Mean Something Awful, but they are also performing at Assai Records Edinburgh, as well as Paisley’s Bungalow Bar for The Spree Festival.

Mt. Doubt have the great ability to produce both mellow acoustic, and more heavily instrumented rock like ‘Reference Books’, while maintaining a dark sound. Despite differing tones, the deep, rich vocals of frontman Leo Bargery remain as powerful as ever. This is particularly noticeable in ‘Blemishes’ - the track’s eerie sound reminds me of The Smiths, one of the collective’s named influences. If ‘Blemishes’ is a taste of what we can expect thematically from This Must Mean Something Awful, then it could not come at a better time. As Autumn evenings become darker, prepare to play Mt. Doubt on a loop.

The EP This Must Mean Something Awful will be released on limited edition yellow cassette as part of Cassette Store Day on 13th October 2018, via Scottish Fiction Records.
